A Day Most Deserved

I was shocked to pull into a shopping strip this past Friday and see Christmas wreaths and baubles flanking the architecture around the store entrances.  It’s bad enough we haven’t even had Thanksgiving yet, I thought to myself, but we haven’t even celebrated Veteran’s Day!

The unyielding onslaught of modern-day marketing not withstanding, tomorrow is an important day to stop and remember those who have and do offer their all in service to this country, in order that we might uphold the sound principles of our Constitution, which begins:

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Because we live every day in a political system that allows us to peacefully dissemble from the opinion of our leaders, watch and read whatever we choose, and even worship without persecution, it can be easy to forget at what cost these freedoms were bought for us.

If you or one of your family have never served in the military, it might be very easy to take for granted the sacrifices that military families make, even during times of peace, even when their loved ones return from dangerous missions alive and in one piece instead of in a coffin.

The nutritional industry is not alone in owing thanks to our military for the freedoms their commitment has afforded us, but we have definitely had ample opportunities to practice our right to the free speech and other rights our Veterans have helped provide.

During many times in the past forty years, your supplements have come close to being banned.  We recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the passing of DSHEA, the act that governs the definition of supplements and makes it possible for you to be able to walk into a health food store and buy a bottle of vitamin C.  When DSHEA was being discussed in Congress, the grass roots movement to keep our supplements safe was actually so strong, that the phone calls made to Congress shut down the phone system there!

Keeping all of us safe from the forces that would deny us our rights as American citizens is the business of countless men and women to whom we owe the utmost thanks.

So, please take a moment or two to thank a Veteran tomorrow as we remember all America’s heroes.  Betsy’s Health Foods and the Betsy’s Team want you to know that you are some of our favorite people to take to heart.
